The Aadhaar card is a 12-digit unique identification number generated and assigned by the UIDAI. It can be used as your identity and address proof. The UIDAI provides you with several options to trace or recover your lost or forgotten Aadhaar number even if you have not integrated your mobile number or email ID with the Aadhaar. Let us now see the various ways

1. With the help of the operator at the enrolment centre

The "Print Aadhaar" service at Aadhaar enrolment centers allows for the retrieval of Aadhaar numbers with assistance from operators. The charges for this service are Rs. 30.

The process is as explained below:

  • Aadhaar number holders must visit the Aadhaar enrolment centre physically.
  • They must then furnish the essential information like name, gender, district, or PIN code according to the Aadhaar-generated enrolment.
  • Post providing this information, if the Aadhaar number cannot be traced still due to the presence of multiple records, additional demographic details such as the year of birth, C/O, State, etc. can be provided. This will help in making the search more specific.
  • Aadhaar card holders must provide biometric authentication using a single fingerprint or single IRIS (RD device). If the match is found, the operator will give a printout of the e-Aadhaar.

2. By Calling the UIDAI Helpline number 1947

This can be implemented in 2 phases

Phase 1: Aadhaar number holders must call the toll-free number 1947. They must then furnish the demographic details asked by the calling executive. If a match is found, then the Aadhaar enrolment ID will be provided over the call itself. This service can be done free of cost and hassle-free.

Phase 2 (IVRS): Call 1947 again and choose the option for language. Post this, enter option 1 (Request status). Then, input option 2 (Request for Aadhaar enrolment status). Provide the available Aadhaar enrolment ID to the IVRS. Then furnish the details asked for such as date of birth and PIN code according to the Aadhaar-generated enrolment to the IVRS. If a match is found, then the IVRS will provide the Aadhaar number. This service is free of cost and simple.

Conclusion

Your Aadhaar number is very important and a must-have detail. Without it, you will not have access to various banking and non-banking services. Since it helps to authenticate your identity, it is essential to know this number. However, individuals who have not yet registered their mobile number with Aadhaar or have lost their registered mobile number can still download the Aadhaar through the options provided by the UIDAI.
