The Election Commission of India (ECI) has undertaken various measures to establish democratic citizenry in the country. Identifying genuine voters and weeding out non-existent voters from the voters list has been a continuous exercise these past few years. Removing inconsistencies and illegalities in the country’s electoral list is vital to ensure free and fair elections.
In cognizance with this exercise, the ECI called out all the citizens to link their Voter ID with their Aadhaar number. This will automatically result in the removal of duplicate entries in the electoral list. And they also established a few simple ways for citizens to do this. We will discuss these methods to help you link your Voter ID with your Aadhaar number.
1. Linking your Voter ID with Aadhaar number through the NSVP portal
The National Voters Service Portal, or NSVP, is a user friendly portal that allows voters to carry out a number of functions. This portal allows these below functions, and more –
- New Voter registration
- Change of address or other demographic details
- Objection for proposed inclusion/deletion from electoral list
- Aadhaar Seeding of Voter ID No.
Here is a step by step process of how to link your Voter ID with Aadhaar on the NSVP Portal.
Step 1: Visit the NSVP official portal and sign up for a new account.
Step 2: Once you have signed up, go to the Profile section and add your EPIC no and relevant details.
Step 3: Now, on the left-hand menu, you will see the option ‘Seep Aadhaar No’.
Step 4: Once you click on it, you will be asked to enter your Aadhaar no. and other details.
Step 5: Enter all the requisite details and submit. The Voter ID Aadhaar linking is done.

2. Link Voter ID with Aadhaar using the Voter Helpline App
Another feature by the ECI is the Voter Helpline app which allows you to link Voter ID and Aadhaar simply on your mobile phone. Here are the steps:
Step 1: Voter Helpline app is available on both Google Playstore and Apple Appstore. Download it on your mobile phone.
Step 2: Sign up and login to the app using your mobile number, password and OTP.
Step 3: From the main menu, select ‘Voter Registration’. The screen will show a number of different forms for different services. You need to click on Form 6B, which is for Aadhaar Voter ID seeding.
Step 4: You will be asked to enter your EPIC No. and state. Enter these details and click on ‘Fetch Details’. It will display your voter ID details. Confirm if it has pulled up the right Voter Id details and then click on Next
Step 5: The next screen will show your name, constituency, EPIC number, and ask you to enter your Aadhaar number. Enter the correct Aadhaar number, your mobile number and place of application, and hit Done.
Step 6: The Voter ID Aadhaar seeding will be processed.

Link Voter ID with Aadhaar by SMS
The ECI also allows a simple SMS process to link your voter ID and Aadhaar.
Users have to send an SMS to 166 or 51969 in the below format –

For example, if your EPIC No. is SVF7765432 & Your Aadhaar number is 667788995544, the SMS format will be
ECILINK SVF7765432 667788995544
Send an SMS in the correct format to the numbers and your Voter ID Aadhaar linking will be done.
Link Voter ID with Aadhaar via Phone
The ECI has a dedicated service phone line on the number 1950. Voters can call this number on weekdays between 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and request to link their Voter Id an Aadhaar.
Voting is a basic right of every citizen in a democracy and maintaining the sanctity of electoral list is a duty for citizens too. Though the ECI doesn’t mandate the linking of Voter ID with Aadhaar, citizens can volunteer to do this to mitigate the misuse of the election process.
