The UPI Lite is an app launched by the government of India to enable offline UPI payments. Due to Covid 19, we have seen an increase in online transactions using UPI. Several transactions are being processed through UPI. Let us read on to find out why UPI Lite was launched and more about the app.
About UPI Lite
Several UPI transactions are being done every day. So, people are facing lower transaction processes and technical malfunctions. The rejection rates have been higher than usual in the past few months. To decrease these failure rates and boost the functioning of UPI payments, NPCI introduced UPI Lite.
You have to first load money into the wallet on UPI Lite from the bank account. Then, you can make payments from the wallet through UPI Lite.
UPI Lite is used to carry out transactions of low value denominations. UPI Lite allows transactions which are under Rs. 200 only. The current phase of UPI Lite allows only debit of money and not credit. So, you can make payments using this app but you cannot transfer money. You can pay offline as well.
Users can add up to Rs. 2000 to the UPI Lite app balance at any point of time. You need a stable internet connection to update the app balance although payments can be made offline.
Except for top-ups, no UPI Lite transaction will go into passbooks or bank account statements. So, then how does one track the UPI Lite transaction history? You will get an SMS summarizing the transactions done during the day using UPI Lite.
