FASTag program is part of the National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) initiative rolled out by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), under the guidelines of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Indian Highways Management Company Ltd (IHMCL).
FASTags were introduced with the objective of doing away with those long queues at toll plazas. FASTag is enabled by Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), which has to be affixed to the windscreen of your car, allows for electronic toll deduction from a prepaid wallet and lets you cruise through the toll gates. You do not have to wait to make cash transaction at the toll plaza, thus, removing the hassle of carrying cash for toll payments.
These FASTags can be pre-loaded with money and used to pay for your vehicle toll payments electronically. When the vehicle passes through the toll gate, the RFID reader at the toll plaza receives information about the vehicle and the toll amount is deducted automatically from the FASTag wallet, thus saving valuable time & money for the users.
FASTag is currently accepted at 460+ Electronic Toll Plaza across National Highways. Users can make use of the demarcated ETC FASTag lanes at the toll plaza and get the toll fee directly deducted from their FASTag wallet. This has saved an enormous amount of time and fuel to all its users. They also need not worry about carrying cash for the toll payments. The NETC system is inter-operable and the same FASTag can be used across all toll plazas under the National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) program. Planning is underway to include more toll plazas under the ambit of FASTag.
1. Is FASTag compulsory for all vehicles?
Currently, FASTag is mandatory for all vehicles using National Highway Toll Plazas.
2. Is there any incentive/discount on Toll payments using FASTag?
Yes, a cashback of 2.5% can be availed on all Toll payments using FASTag in FY 2019-20.
3. On which highways/roads can FASTag be used?
FASTag is presently operating at 400+ toll plazas across National Highways across India. Additional toll plazas will be brought under the FASTag program in the future. Please check the list of active toll plazas under the ETC program on their official page.
4. How is FASTag used for toll payment?
FASTag uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to provide a contact-less toll collection system at all National Toll Plazas. When the vehicle passes through the toll gate, the RFID reader at the toll plaza receives information about the vehicle and the toll amount is deducted automatically from the FASTag wallet, thus saving valuable time & money for the users.
5. What if I relocate to another city?
FASTag is interoperable and will work on all enabled toll plazas. In case of change in city or address, you can inform the Issuer Agency/Bank.
6. I have two vehicles; can I use the same FASTag for both vehicles?
No, you will need to take two separate FASTags for each vehicle.
7. What do I have to do if I lose my RFID Tag? What will happen to the account balance?
In case you have lost your FASTag, you have to call the Union Bank of India customer care number immediately to block your FASTag. Once a new tag is issued, the balance will be transferred to this new tag.
8. How would I know that the correct user fee has been deducted from my FASTag account?
You will receive an SMS alert in your registered phone number each time a balance is deducted from your FASTag account.
9. Will I get any concessions given to local vehicles if I reside within 10 Km of a toll plaza?
You can take the FASTag and submit the proof of your stay within 10 Km of your toll plaza. Once verified you will get the concessions.
10. What is the validity of the FASTag?
The FASTag validity is for 5 years. Once you have purchased it, you just have to recharge or top-up FASTag as per your requirement. You can do this online through credit or debit card, Netbanking or UPI Apps.
