In today’s India, most eligible citizens are conscious of their voting rights and try their best to exercise the same. The process of getting a voter ID and being registered in the electoral roll could be cumbersome. Every registered voter in India gets a Part Number and a Serial Number which help the voter identify their profiles accurately. A Serial Number in a Voter ID card is very important as it is mandatory in case one wants to make corrections to his or her Voter ID Card.
Generally recognized as a ‘voter list’, an electoral roll is a list of individuals listed as voters living in an area. For appropriate management, the electoral roll of an area is distributed into numerous parts, which comprise particulars of voters of the corresponding voting areas. The appropriately listed voters can vote in Indian Elections. The minimum age for registering in an electoral roll is eighteen years.

Every EPIC (Electoral Photo ID Card) is allotted a matchless EPIC Number. It is an alphanumeric series with three alphabetical codes followed by a seven-digit number. The Functional Unique Serial Number (FUSN) code is the first three alphabetical codes. Unique for each Assembly Constituency, it is delivered by the Election Commission. Following the FUSN code is a numeric code - a six-digit serial number and a one-digit checksum creating a total of seven digits.

1. Who is eligible for enrollment as a Voter?
Every Citizen Who is 18 years old on the qualifying date - 1st January of the concerned year, unless disqualified is eligible to be enrolled
2. Who is disqualified to become a voter?
Only persons who are of unsound mind and have been declared so by a competent court or disqualified due to 'Corrupt Practices' or offences relating to elections are not entitled to be registered in the electoral rolls.
3. If I have completed 18 years of age today, can I get myself registered as a voter?
You can get yourself registered as Voter only on 1st January or thereafter of the year in which the electoral roll is prepared or revised.
4. What proof of residence do I need to show to get enrolled as a voter?
You can show any proof of residence like Passport, Bank Pass Book, Driving license etc. or any government document to facilitate the work of registration.
5. Can a non -Citizen of India become a voter?
No. A person who is not a citizen of India cannot be registered as a voter. Article 326 of the Constitution read with Sec. 16 of R. P. Act, 1950 clarifies the point.
