RTO Registration Process

In our country, every state has a Regional Transport Office. This Regional Transport Office keeps a check on all the vehicles that are running on the road of their states. Every vehicle that is being driven has to be registered under the Regional Transport Office.

RTO Registration Details

Every vehicle that is registered under the respective state RTO has a vehicle registration card. The Regional Transport Office, apart from issuing the vehicle cards, is responsible for issuing driving licenses. The RTO of each state is also responsible for keeping a tab on pollution and vehicle insurance.

Once a vehicle is registered by any RTO under the Transport Ministry of India, the RTO gives a registration number. This number is not changed even when the vehicle is sold by the owner. This is a permanent number.

Temporary RTO Registration

As given above, every vehicle has a permanent registration number. But, a temporary registration is given by the dealer to the customer before the registration of the vehicle is done by the RTO. What is the need to Register your Vehicle?

Vehicle registration in our country has various reasons and benefits. Some of the most evident benefits and reasons are

  • Proof of ownership
  • The registration certificate is the proof that the owner is the same person whose name is written on the certificate. This certificate is as per the RTO records and the name written on the certificate is considered to be the name of the owner.

  • Sale of Vehicle
  • For legally selling off the vehicle, a registration certificate is required by the owner. The owner cannot sell the vehicle without this certificate.

  • Claiming Insurance
  • In the case of claiming insurance, a registration certificate is required and only then does the insurance company disburse the claim. The insurer will need to confirm the owner transferred the funds of the claim.

Apart from the above reasons, it is mandatory under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 to get your vehicles registered in the country. According to this act, a person cannot drive a vehicle that is not registered and the registration should be carried at all times.

Driving License in India

To drive a vehicle legally on the roads, an Indian driving license is mandatory. However, to obtain a driving license there is a separate process to it and the license is not received right away.

An individual wanting to drive any type of motor vehicle in India has to get their learning license first. A learner’s license is required for learning. A person has to appear for a test before an RTO authority, who after proper examination, will declare if the person has passed the examination or not. Such an examination is held after a month’s time after the issue of a learning license.

How to Apply for a Driving License?

You can apply for a Driving License either through the official Government website or by visiting the nearest RTO office. It is also worth noting that a learner’s license is not a prerequisite for applying for a driver’s license. The only condition for eligibility is that the applicant is 18 years of age and above that, and he has knowledge of traffic rules and regulations required for the issue of a license.

Duplicate Driving License in India

Driving License is an important document in India as it gives citizens the right to drive and also acts as valid identity proof. If anyone loses their driving license, they can apply to get a Duplicate Driving License from the RTO by filling out an application form and submitting it with the required documents.
