PAN Card or your Permanent Account Number, is an important tax document for every rule abiding Indian citizen. It helps the government to keep track of financial transactions and collect the right tax amount from individuals and businesses.
Every PAN holder is sent a physical PAN card the first time they apply for one. They are required to provide a copy of this PAN card for various transactions like opening a bank account, purchase of property or assets, any cash transaction above Rs.50,000, and any other large transaction.
Now, in this digital age, consumers are required to share soft copy of their PAN for various transaction. If you also find taking and storing the photocopy or scanned copy of your PAN card for various transactions, then downloading your PAN Card will be a good option.
PAN Card is offered by two major entities in India; Protean (formerly e-NSDL) & UTIISL. Both offer easy download of your PAN Card using just your PAN no., name and date of birth. You will be able to download your PAN only from the provider portal where you apply for it. So, if you originally got your PAN from e-NSDL, you have to login to the Protean portal to download your PAN and if it is from UTIISL, you need to get it from their portal. We have provided a detailed step by step guide of both the processes so that you can download it from the right portal. Let’s go!

1. Protean PAN Portal - https://www.protean-tinpan.com/
The e-NSDL Portal is now Protean. You don’t need to login or register. Just follow this path.
Protean TIN-PAN Page > Scroll to the bottom > PAN Services Link > Choose one of the two based on when your PAN was allotted -
Request for e-PAN/ e-PAN XML (PANs allotted in last 30 days) or Request for e-PAN/ e-PAN XML (PANs allotted prior to 30 days)
2. You have two options to retrieve your PAN details – Acknowledgement number or your PAN number.
For Acknowledgement number option, enter your PAN Application acknowledgement number and date of birth. If you choose the PAN number option, you will be asked for your PAN no., Aadhaar number, and date of birth.
3. In the next page, you will be given the option as to where to receive the OTP for verification. You can choose between email id, mobile number, or both. After verification, you get the option to download your e-PAN.
Note: You are allowed 3 free downloads of your e-PAN. After that, a small fee will be charged for every download.

UTI is another provider for PAN Cards in India. If you have applied for and received your PAN card through UTI, you can follow the below steps to download your PAN card copy.
1. UTIISL PAN Portal - https://www.pan.utiitsl.com/PAN/
2. Scroll to the bottom for PAN Services > Download e-PAN
3. Enter PAN No., Date of birth, and CAPTCHA
4. OTP sent to mobile or email. You can download your e-PAN after OTP verification.
Both Protean (e-NSDL) and UTIISL Portals offer easy and simple ways to update information on your PAN Card.
1. You can visit either of the portals and choose Update PAN Details.
2. It will ask for your PAN number, Aadhaar number and date of birth details.
3. OTP Verification is done, and PAN Updation form is opened.
4. Applicants can input the correct name, address and other details you want to update on your PAN.
5. Submit documentary proof for the updates and submit the application.
6. After the application review process, applicants are informed whether the application is approved or rejected.
7. If rejected, you can reapply with suggested corrections.
8. If your application is approved, simply download the updated e-PAN. If you choose to receive a physical copy of the updated PAN card, that will be sent to your registered address.
