Aadhaar was implemented by the Government of India with the object of having a single system for citizens identification across the country across various services. Many services across the country, like bank accounts, mutual funds, insurance policies, mobile connections and similar services, accept Aadhaar as an identification document to avail their services. This article aims at educating users on how to link their Aadhaar with their SBI Life Insurance policies.
IRDAI has clarified that it is mandatory to link Aadhaar with insurance policies under the ‘Prevention of Money-laundering (Maintenance of Records) Second Amendment Rules, 2017’. With the introduction of Aadhaar, the Government claims a huge decrease in fraudulent transactions. Though there is still speculation on making Aadhaar mandatory for all services, citizens consider Aadhaar as a convenient form of identification document.
New applicants are mandated to quote their Aadhaar number & PAN while filling up the proposal form. It is mandatory to quote your PAN for policies where the annual premium exceeds Rs.50,000. Existing customers of SBI Life Insurance Co. can conveniently link their Aadhaar & PAN with their policies online or offline.
