SBI has an extensive branch network, with over 24,000 branches in India and over 190 offices in 35 other countries across the world. As one of the leading digital banking solution providers in India, SBI allows seamless transfer of money into any other bank account. With digital banking widely popular around the country, users are seeking convenient and quick fund transfers through online mode.
SBI Bank offers Netbanking facilities to its customers, which allows online fund transfer to other bank accounts via three major payment systems, namely NEFT, IMPS & RTGS. These three payments systems are regulated by the RBI and to allow for hassle-free fund transfer, the RBI has employed the IFSC Code. IFSC Codes are unique to every bank branch. They make sure that your funds are transferred to the right account in the right branch. One can find the IFSC Code of a bank branch on the bank’s website, or on the RBI website, or through our CreditMantri portal.
The IFSC Code, or the Indian Financial System Code, is a 11-digit alpha-numeric code designated to a particular bank branch. This code is essential while doing online fund transfers. It refers to each banking branch which is participating in Indias three major payment and settlement systems: NEFT, IMPS & RTGS.
The IFSC code consists of 11 letters, the first four are alphabetical letters representing the bank name, and the branch is represented by the last six characters (normally numeric or occasionally alphabetic). Fifth, 0 (zero) is reserved for future use at the time being. The Bank IFSC Code enables NEFT & RTGS to forward messages to the banks / branches of destination.
The Reserve Bank of India shall issue the IFSC to all banks and branches. The IFSC is an important factor in transferring funds from your bank account to another bank account. You can use NEFT, IMPS or RTGS to transfer money to another branch. For all three of these schemes, the IFSC code of the beneficiary bank account is used to pass the money to the right branch account number.
The IFSC Code has become more important by integrating Internet banking into the Indian Banking System. In the past, the MICR code was used to mark the appropriate banking branch where the balance had to be paid, reported on the search or on the order. The IFSC code is common in the modern banking sector for fast cash transactions, with Internet money transfers gaining popularity.
The primary application of IFSC Code is during online money transfer. India has 3 major money transfer systems; NEFT, IMPS & RTGS. All three systems require the IFSC Code of the recipient’s bank branch to ensure that the money is credited to the right bank account at the right branch. Here are some other advantages of using IFSC Code for banking:
