Aadhaar is slowly becoming one of the most important documents today for all Indian citizens. It is a credible and effective identity proof. Today, more than 90% of the people residing in India have been provided with their Aadhaar cards. Those who want to apply for an Aadhaar card can visit an Aadhaar centre, fill the Aadhaar card Enrolment Form, and submit required documents.

Aadhaar card enrolment has become a necessity for every Indian citizen. After getting an Aadhaar card, often people lose it and also forget the Aadhaar number. At times, people also forget to retain their enrolment slip or end up losing it. If you have lost or misplaced your Aadhaar Card, it is possible to get a duplicate card through a simple procedure. In case you do not remember or are unsure of your Aadhaar number, or if you have lost or misplaced your acknowledgement slip, you will still be able to retrieve the Aadhaar card.


In case you have lost or misplaced your Aadhaar card, you can get a duplicate Aadhaar card. An individual can get a duplicate Aadhaar card from the official website of UIDAI by providing the enrolment number mentioned in the acknowledgement slip provided at the time of enrolling for the Aadhaar card. The duplicate card has the same card number and other details as the original card.

It is possible that you lose your Aadhaar card and also forget the Aadhaar number. At times, you may forget to retain the enrolment slip or end up losing it. In case this is the scenario with you, take the following steps to get your enrolment number back.

Steps to Retrieve Aadhaar Card If Lost

Mobile number/E-mail address: It is important to give the correct mobile number and email address at the time of Aadhaar card registration as you can get the One Time Password (OTP) on either of the two in order to retrieve your lost Aadhaar card.

OTP: To get an OTP number, it is important to give the correct mobile number and email address, as mentioned above.

Log in: Visit uidai.gov.in and you can download the duplicate copy of your Aadhaar card. Click on ‘Aadhaar Online Services’, select ‘Retrieve Lost UID/EID’ and follow the given steps.

Confirmation: Fill in the OTP in the given box on the website and you will receive your Aadhaar number on e-mail or mobile number.

Download: Click on ‘Download Aadhaar’ and enter your Aadhaar number and other details such as pin code and house address. You will receive another OTP for downloading the Aadhaar card. The pdf file is password protected and hence, you need to follow the instructions mentioned in the website to access it.


In case of loss of Aadhaar card, you can download a duplicate copy of the same by following these simple steps.

  • Choose from Enrolment ID or Aadhaar no. once the page is open
  • Enrolment ID
  • If you have the enrolment number with you, choose enrolment number or if you have Aadhaar number, select the Aadhaar
  • Input enrolment number/Aadhaar number in the given input space
  • Enter your full Name and Pincode
  • You will be asked to enter the Captcha code for security purposes. Input the letters/digits visible on the image
  • You need to enter your mobile number and click on the Get One-time Password
  • Get One-time Password
  • OTP (One-time Password) will be sent to the registered number
  • Now you need to enter the OTP
  • Now click on the button that says” Validate & Download”

  • Use Zip code as the password
  • Aadhaar card is ready to print
  • If you are not familiar or comfortable to get a duplicate Aadhaar Card via the online steps, then you don’t need to worry. You can still get your Aadhaar card by offline method. Follow this simple guide to download e-Aadhar card.

    • Call the UIDAI toll free number that is available on the UIDAI website
    • Inform the UIDAI delegate or representative about your lost/misplaced Aadhar card, and give him/her the details of your Lost Aadhaar Card. Once the information is verified, they will send you a new Aadhaar card to the registered address using offline methods.
    • In case of inability to communicate with the authorities on the toll-free number, you can correspond with the provincial Aadhaar office for the same reason.

    In case you are unable to retrieve a duplicate copy of your Aadhaar card online or using the toll-free number, you can simply visit a nearby Aadhaar Enrolment Centre and request for a duplicate Aadhaar. You will have to follow these steps to get a duplicate Aadhaar:

    • Visit the nearest Aadhaar Enrolment Centre and fill the Aadhaar Correction form.
    • If you know your Aadhaar number or enrolment number, you can request the registrar to issue a duplicate Aadhaar.
    • Else, the executive will verify your biometrics and place a request for a duplicate Aadhaar.
    • After processing your request successfully, your Aadhaar will be sent to your residential address.

    1. I lost my Aadhaar card. How do I get a duplicate Aadhaar card online?

    You can get a duplicate Aadhaar card online from the UIDAI website. You need your Aadhaar number or your enrolment ID and your mobile number should be registered with Aadhaar to avail this facility.

    2. Is it possible to get a duplicate e-Aadhaar even if I do not have Aadhaar number or enrolment ID?

    Yes. You can visit the UIDAI website and select the retrieve UID/ EID option. You can also visit an Aadhaar enrolment centre for the same.
