PAN or Permanent Account Number is a unique identification number assigned to all taxpayers in India. PAN Card is a compulsory document in various financial transactions. The Government of India mandates that high value transactions (usually transactions above Rs. 50,000) should mention the PAN Number of the involved parties to avoid money laundering.
It has been made mandatory to link your PAN Number with your Aadhaar number to allow the Government to easily track monetary transactions and the corresponding tax to be paid. June 30th, 2020 has been announced as the last date to link your PAN and Aadhaar numbers.
PAN Number can be applied by individuals, business entities, corporates, HUFs and anyone who is liable to pay tax in India. In order to facilitate easy application and issuance of PAN Card, the Government has PAN processing through the NSDL & UTIITSL. These two organisations accept physical as well as online applications for issuance of new and duplicate PAN cards to eligible applicants.
Once you have applied for a PAN Card through any of the channels, it takes about 15 days for the application process. The card is then sent to you via India Post Speed Post to the official communication address mentioned on the application form. Now, you would want to be up to date with the shipping and delivery status of the PAN Card. How do you check that? You can check that in 3 ways; via the NSDL website, the UTIITSL website or through the India Post tracking website.
About How to check PAN Card Delivery Status
Once you have applied for the PAN card, either online or physically, you will be given a 15-digit acknowledgement number. With this acknowledgement number, you can track the status of your PAN Card application on the NSDL website.
PAN Card Tracking in NSDL using Acknowledgement Number
PAN Card Tracking in NSDL through SMS
You can also use your mobile phones to obtain status of your application via SMS (Short Messaging Service). You must type the word "NSDL PAN" followed by your 15-digit acknowledgement number, and send it to 57575 for this. For instance: SMS NSDL PAN 012345678901234-57575.
PAN Card Tracking in NSDL through IVRS
You can also check the status of your application by calling the Interactive Voice Response (IVR) by NSDL by calling the call center on 020-27218080.
On the UTIITSL Portal, you can track the delivery status either using the ‘Application Coupon Number’ or using the PAN Number and the applicant’s date of birth or date of incorporation.
Once your PAN Card application has been processed, it is sent via Speed Post to the Official Communication Address mentioned on your application. You can check the application status on the NSDL website or the UTIITSL portal based on where you submitted the application. The portal will give you status of the application process. It usually takes up to 15 days for the process to be completed and your PAN Card to be shipped. Once your PAN Card is shipped, the Speed Post Consignment number is updated on the tracking portals. You can use this Speed Post Consignment number to track your package on the India Post website.
