Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) offers benefits to nearly 50 crore people in India and is the world's largest government sponsored healthcare program. The program is a poverty alleviation programme as its users are people with low income in India providing them with health coverage through a health insurance scheme which offers a cover of Rs. 5 lakhs per family. The 10 crore families consists of 8 crore in rural areas and 2.33 crore in urban areas. Broken into smaller units, this means the scheme will aim to cater to 50 crore individual beneficiaries.
Here is the eligibility list of who can avail the benefits under this scheme:
In the rural areas, the PMJAY health cover is available to:
- Physically challenged member and no able-bodied adult member
- Families living in one-room makeshift houses with no proper walls or roof
- Landless households working as casual manual labourers
- Female-headed households with absence of any adult male member between the age group of 16-59 years.
- Scheduled caste and scheduled tribe households
- Manual scavenger families
- Primitive tribal communities
- Legally released bonded labourers
- Beggars
In the urban areas, the PMJAY health cover is available to:
- Assistants, peons in small business firms, shopkeepers, waiters and delivery boys,
- Transport workers like drivers, conductors, helpers, cart or rickshaw pullers
- Domestic help
- Plumbers, masons, construction workers, porters, welders, painters and security guardsSanitation workers, gardeners, sweepers
- Home-based artisans or handicraft workers, tailors
- Hawkers, Cobblers and others working on streets or pavements
- Mechanics, electricians, repair workers
- Washerman / chowkidars
- Rag pickers
