Aadhaar is being touted as an important identification document for various government services. The Indian government is insisting on linking your Aadhaar with various essential government services like PAN, bank accounts, investments, property purchases, high-value transactions, mobile connections, gas connections, etc. In this long list, a few state governments are urging consumers to link their Aadhaar with their EB connections too, to avail of discounts and subsidies offered on electricity consumption.
Tamil Nadu is insisting its TNEB consumers to link their Aadhaar with their EB connection to avail the Direct Benefit Transfer benefit offered to certain EB connection holders. Tamil Nadu government offers the first 100 units of electricity free, every month, to all consumers, except commercial connections.

1. On the homepage of TANGEDCO site, scroll to the bottom to find a menu for online services. The first option will be ‘Aadhaar – Link your service connection number’. Choose that one.
2. A simple form requesting for your Service Connection Number, Mobile Number, and Captcha Code, opens. Enter those.
3. Next page will display the details of the connection number you entered; like the name and address. Then it will show a dropdown box with the below options to choose from –
4. Select whichever one of the options suits you the best, enter your Aadhaar number, and click on ‘Send OTP’.
5. Ensure that you have the mobile number handy to enter the OTP and verify the request.
6. Your request to link Aadhaar to your EB connection is now submitted.
Detailed instructions on how to link your Aadhaar card with mobile number
Consumers would receive an SMS confirmation of their request to link their Aadhaar with their EB connection. Your request must undergo verification to ensure its veracity.
Once TANGEDCO is satisfied with all the information, the linking is completed, and the consumer is entitled to get the subsidies or benefits offered for EB connections.
Consumers are, of course, informed about the completion of the linking once it’s done. If it is taking more time than normal, consumers can go to the TANGEDCO site to check the status.
1. Go to the ‘Online Services’ tab on the TANGEDCO site and select ‘Bill Status’.
2. You will be asked to input your EB Service connection number and mobile number.
3. It will display the details of your connection, including name, address, and the Aadhaar linking status.
4. If the linking is not yet done, you can raise a ‘Consumer Compliant’ under the ‘Reach Us’ option from the main page.
