Debit cards and credit cards have revolutionized the Indian economy. With the advent of demonetization, there has been considerable change which has been brought into the economic system of the country. There is growing cashless transaction and digitization is taking the economy to the next level. All the banks offer debit card as part of the opening kit when any individual opens a savings bank account. The debit card enables the individual to conduct cashless transactions both online and offline. The use of cashless mode of transaction offers safety, transparency and risk of loss.
Debit card is a type of plastic card which offers the convenience of cash withdrawals, making cashless transactions at shopping centers, eateries, petrol pumps, hotels, flight booking, movie ticket booking etc., Debit card uses money from the savings account (or current account) for purchases or ATM withdrawals. The card is rightly called so, since it debits the extent of cash as per the transactions in the respective account.
The bank issues Canara Bank Debit Card in association with Visa / MasterCard. The account holder will be issued debit card as part of the account opening kit. This provides the convenience of conducting cashless transactions online and offline. As per the guidelines of RBI all Visa and Mastercard standard debit cards issued by all banks will be enabled for domestic usage only. All cards which are enabled for international usage will be enabled with EMV chip and PIN card. They will be issued based on specific request from the account holder. There is a one-time issuance charge of Rs. 250 + GST which is applicable on all EMV enabled cards issued by Canara Bank.
The Canara Bank debit card will enable the card holder to access the funds in the account as per requirement. The card can be used to shop for materials or services at various establishments, this can be online or offline. The card can be used for withdrawal purposes in India and abroad.
Various accounts can be opened for the purpose of depositing funds in Canara Bank. The accounts that are eligible for debit card issuance are Savings bank, Current account, overdraft, NRI’s employees, ex-employees, HUF, Proprietorship, PA holders (Joint accounts operated severally), Joint accounts operated jointly (for cash withdrawal of our ATMs, 2 proprietary cards shall be issued at specific request through joint operations).
The accounts which are not eligible for debit card issuance include accounts held in the name of minors, minor students less than 10 years of age, accounts with garnishee attachment orders, encumbered accounts.
A single debit card can be linked to 4 accounts of the card holder. One of the accounts of the account holder will be designated as primary account. This account will be the one debited for all POS / Internet / MOTO transactions and cash withdrawals at other bank ATMs. However, the account holder, at the ATM, during withdrawal of money, is allowed to choose the account from which the withdrawal needs to be done.

Payment of utility bills :
This facility of paying utility bill can be availed through Visa bill pay or bill desk. There is a link provided in the official website of the bank which will provide the details on registration of this facility. Alternatively, the customer can also register on the biller’s website.
E-shopping :
Online shopping has taken the world by storm, while there are multiple payment modes, most people who shop online prefer to make cashless transactions. Debit cards have enabled this phenomenon. Canara Bank debit cards can be used conveniently to make online payments from a host of web merchants. There is link ‘e-shoppe’ in the official website of Canara Bank which provides details regarding usage of debit card for making online payment. Rs. 10/- is collected from the customers account.
Cash withdrawal using Canara Bank debit card at Point of sale at merchant establishments is allowed by Canara Bank. The account holder can avail this benefit, the advantages of using this feature are –

For Canara Bank Platinum Debit Card, cash withdrawal limit is Rs. 50,000 per day and for purchase transaction Rs. 2 Lakh per day.

The card holder can call the Canara Bank customer support team and place request for hot-listing the debit card.
(3) How many transactions are free of any additional charges in Canara Bank ATM?
Upto 5 transactions including cash withdrawal, balance enquiry and changing secret identification number, from ATMs of other banks are free.
