SBI is the first choice for consumers to open a new bank account. Be it a simple savings bank account, or a deposit account like Fixed Deposit, Recurring Deposit or a Flexi deposit account, Indians choose SBI by default. This is thanks to their excellent network of branches and ATMs spread across the country. Now with the introduction of UPI payments, a bank account has become a necessity for every individual.  

To open an account in SBI, you can visit your nearest branch and request for the Account Opening Form. This form needs to be filled up with all the requested information and submitted along with supporting documentary proof. For a first time account opener, some of the terms and information requested on the form may be a bit confusing. Not to worry. Keep reading to understand the different sections in the account opening form and what information needs to be filled in each of them.  

Key Points to remember before you start filling in the SBI Account Opening Form 

SBI has different account opening forms for individuals and non-individuals (companies and businesses). So get the right form at the branch.  

The account opening form for Resident Individuals is about 8-9 pages long.  

The form requires accurate and latest KYC information, along with your signature at a few places.  

If you are opening a joint account, the customer information sheet has to be filled up for both the account holders separately.  

Keep all the documentary proofs ready so that you fill in the right information in the requisite fields.

SBI Account Opening Form – How to fill Part I?  

Part A 

The topmost part of the form needs to be filled in by the bank with the Branch name, branch code, CKYC No, Customer ID, account type, account no. etc.; So you can skip this one.  

You should start with ‘A – Personal Details’ section. This section is your basic demographic details.  

Fill in your name, maiden name (If you had a different one before marriage. If not, skip this field), date of birth, marital status, name of your father, mother or spouse, name of the guardian in case the account is for a minor, occupation type, religion, and other details.  

You also need to fill in your PAN number in this section. If the account opener doesn’t have a PAN, then Form 60 (Annexure-1) needs to be filled in.  

SBI Account Opening Form - Part B 

Part B is mainly about your contact details.  

You need to fill in your mobile number and email id.  

SBI Account Opening Form - Part C 

Part C is where you fill in your Proof of Identity and Proof of Address details.  

Supporting documents include latest passport, voter ID, driving license, Aadhaar no., NREGA Job card, or a letter issued by the National Population Registry.  

You also need to enter the document id, the issued date and expiry date (if applicable).  

SBI Account Opening Form - Part D & E 

Parts D & E relate to your current address and permanent address.  

Many individuals might be living in a different city than their native city. So they might have a correspondence address and a permanent address. You need to fill those up.  

If your current address and permanent address are the same, you just need to tick ‘Same as Current/Permanent Address’ in Part E.  

SBI Account Opening Form - Part F 

This part needs to be filled in if the document you submitted for identity proof does not list your current address.  

You can then provide your latest utility bill, property tax or municipal tax receipt or any other valid documents listed under this section to establish your current address.  

SBI Account Opening Form - Part G 

This is the last section in Part I, where you provide self-declaration and place your signature.  

If you have submitted your Aadhaar no, you can also authorize EKYC for the bank to verify it with the UIDAI site for biometric or OTP based verification.  

You also need to paste your latest passport size photo.  

Separate box is given to place your signature. Place your signature neatly, in black ink only.  

How to fill SBI Account Opening Form - Part II? 

This part is where you will fill the type of account you want to open. Here are the different kinds of accounts and modes of operation you can choose from.  

Types of Account –  

  • Savings Bank  
  • BSBDA 
  • BSBDA Small Account  
  • Current account (individual) 
  • Fixed deposit/RD/MOD 
  • Caps Gain  

Mode of Operation  

Self 

Either or survivor – A joint account where either of the account holders are authorized to carry out transactions  

Any one or survivor – A joint account where a specific account holder is authorized to operate the account, and in case of his death, the survivor can operate.  

Jointly operated – A joint account where both the account holders have to authorize transactions.  

Other – Any other kind as stipulated by the bank.  

Choose the services required – Choose whether you want an ATM cum debit card, cheque book, and other value add services relating to your account.  

Fill the details for the type of account you are opening.  

Nomination details – This is Part G (Form DA-1) where you fill the nominee for your account.  

Declaration cum Undertaking – This part is where you place your signature again.  

How to fill SBI Account Opening Form – Terms & Conditions Part  

The next page will show the terms & conditions of account opening. Read through it carefully and place your signature in the box again.  

SBI Account Opening Form – Annexures 1 & 2 

The last two sheets in the form will be Annexures 1 & 2.  

  • Annexure 1 is Form 60 which we discussed above. It is to be filled in by individuals who don’t have a PAN Number.  
  • You will fill in your name, date of birth, address details contact details, etc.  
  • You have to submit supporting documents instead of PAN. This list is given in the next sheet. Refer to it and submit the right document for ease of application processing.  
  • Annexure 2 is to be filled in for Minor Account Opening form.  
  • You fill in your SBI account number/Customer ID.  
  • Name, address details and contact details.  
  • Also submit documentary proof of identity and address for the guardian opening the account.  
  • You will also see a FACTA Declaration Form. This is for individuals who are taxpayers in a country other than India. Fill this up if it’s relevant for you.  
  • And finally, place your signature in the sheet.  

That is all! These are all the details you need to fill in on the SBI Account Opening Form.  

Once you have filled in all the details, submit the form along with photocopies of supporting documents.  

The receiving officer will check all the details and process your account opening. This will generally take about 15-20 minutes.  

Once it is processed, they will give you a New Account Kit, which will have a temporary debit card. A permanent debit card, with your name printed on it, will be sent to you via mail, within a week or 10 days. Until then you can use the temporary debit card at ATMs and merchant purchase points.

Opening an SBI Savings account is free of cost. You just have to maintain the Minimum monthly balance as stipulated by the bank.  

2. How long does it take to open an SBI account? 

Once you have filled in the form completely with accurate information, and submitted the requisite documents, the account will be opened in less than 30 mins.  

3. Is it possible to open an SBI Account online?  

Yes, you can also visit the SBI Online official website and start the process to open an account online. All the form filling and document submission can be done online.  

4. When will I get access to SBI YONO app?  

Once your account is opened and you receive your account number, you can download the SBI YONO app and register your account. Please ensure that you enter the correct email address and phone number in the SBI Account Opening form to avoid any confusion with SMS Alerts and OTPs for transactions.  

5. Do I need to fill the SBI Account opening form for a Zero Balance Account too?  

Yes, even if you want to open a zero balance account, an account with minimal features, you have to fill in the account opening form.
