When you are employed in an organisation - be it any - the employer would fix your salary after a discussion and your acknowledgment. Procedure to Check Your EPF Balance Online

Checking your EPF online is easier and simpler. However, before checking your account online, you must have seeded your Aadhaar number with EPF through your employer or by you. After having linked that Aadhaar number, you need to activate the EPF account which can be done online. 

To activate the account, 

  • You need to visit the EPF Member portal

  • Click on ‘Activate UAN’

  • You will now be directed to another page where you will have to fill in your details such as mobile number, UAN, PAN, Aadhaar, date of birth, etc. 

  • You will get an OTP on your registered mobile number

  • Verify the OTP and enter the captcha appears on the page

Upon mobile number verification, it takes up to 6 hours to activate your UAN. Once the account is activated, you need to follow the step by step procedure given below to check your EPF balance online. 

Step 1: Visit the official website of Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation and hover your cursor on ‘Our Services’ and click on ‘For Employees’.

 

Step 2: Click on ‘Member Passbook’ as mentioned in the image below. 

 

Step 3: It will now open up a new page as given below wherein you need to enter the UAN and password which is already sent to you upon activation. 

 

Step 4: You need to enter the UAN, password and the answer to the simple mathematical calculation. After logging in, your need to choose your account and the details of your PF account will be listed. 

Your PF amount is the combination of both both employee’s share and employer’s share. You can find each balance and total balance in detail. Moreover, the contribution of each month will be listed in a table. You can also download the passbook in pdf format and view it at your convenient time.

Missed Call Facility

Apart from checking your EPF balance online, you can also get the details by giving out a missed call. However, to avail this facility, you must already have activated your UAN. This facility is much simpler than online process as it gets you the details in a few seconds. You don't need to access the internet or visit the official website with the credentials. Just give a call at 011-22901406. The call gets disconnected automatically after 2 rings. You will now get the EPF balance information on your mobile. The information includes your latest contribution and total balance. 

SMS

Sending an SMS is another method wherein you can avail the PF balance. This SMS facility is now available in 10 languages that includes English, Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, Telugu, Malayalam, Punjabi, Gujarathi, Marathi and Kannada. You need to follow the format below to get the PF balance.

The above format will bring the details in English which is the default language. If you like to get the details in other languages, you need to follow the format below. You need to mention the first three letters of your preferred language.

When can you withdraw the EPF amount?

As per the EPF act, one can withdraw the EPF amount after attaining 58 years of age upon retirement. You will be getting the PF amount and Employee Pension Scheme (EPS) amount as well. You can withdraw the full EPF amount before attaining 58 years in case you do not have any employment continuously for 60 days. 

Partial premature withdrawals are allowed on EPF amount after completing 5 to 10 years of service in case there is a financial emergency such as medical, unemployment or marriage. 

The PF amount can be withdrawn by filling up the Composite Claim Form and submit it to EPFO office or to your employer. You will also need to attach your Aadhaar number, PAN and Form 15G/15H if required. After 58 years of age, if you want to claim the full pension, you will have to attach Form 10D along with the claim form.
